Kirkleatham Airship Mooring Out-Station
Location : South of Redcar
OS Ref : NZ 595 219
Kirkleatham was originally named Redcar but, on 27th August 1918, the name was changed to Kirkleatham in order to avoid confusion with the aerodrome of the same name. It was used as a World War One mooring out-station for non-rigid airships (sub-station to Howden between 04/06/1918-01/1919 and Newcastle between 02/1919 -04/1919) and was operational between June 1918 and April 1919.
