London to Newcastle Air Races
This
air race was introduced by the Newcastle Aero Club in 1931 to
compete for the Evening World (a local Newcastle newspaper) Trophy.
The first race was from Heston to Cramlington and continued on an
annual basis until 1936. At the time it was the longest air race of
its kind.
There is some confusion over the 4th air race, as the 3rd is documented as being held in 1933, but 5th the following year!
