18Sqn's North East history
The Wessex HC.2's of 18Sqn arrived at Acklington from Gütersloh,
Germany in the New
Year of 1968. The unit had re-formed on 27th January 1964 at Odiham
when the Wessex trials unit was re-numbered and given a role to
provide tactical transport support for the army in the UK and
Germany. On 8th August 1969, the squadron left for Odiham.
