New Haggerston Flight Station

New Haggerston was a World War One home defence flight station used by 77(HD)Sqn. It became operational in October 1916, originally occupying 75 acres of land measuring 600 x 600 yards. This was increased over time to finally occupy 166 acres (730 x 730 yards). After 77(HD)Sqn departed, it continued as a 2nd class landing ground for the squadron.
In May 1918, it became a Marine operations station for 256Sqn (526 Flt), two Bessonneau hangars provided the only shelter. Relinquishment of the station was notified on 6th November 1919 and confirmed 22nd January 1920.
